Revision of the genus Protogyrodactiylus (Monogenoidea) and a description of the new species P. marinus

Protogyrodactylus marinus n.sp. from the gills of Therapon jarbua in Lunawa Lagoon, Sri Lanka, and Moreton Bay, Australia, differs from related species in combinations of several morphological characters. The genus Protogyrodactylus is revised and an emended diagnosis given; Trivitellina, Daitreosoma, Empleurosoma and Gussevstrema are synonymized with Protogyrodactylus. T. subrotunda is synonymized with P. quadratus. Ancyrocephalus scapulasser is transferred to Protogyrodactylus. Some amendments are made to the description of P. constrictus (syn. D. constrictum).
