Along with the international nonproprietary name (INN) system, drugs may also be assigned a national non-proprietary name by a national nomenclature committee.These national non-proprietary names can become INNs as part of the international harmonisation conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) INN programme. The United Kingdom and the United States have two of the most active national programmes.
