When administered in drinking water to turkey breeder hens, 6-8 weeks before the beginning of egg laying, the vaccine was safe and produced a high degree of immunity. The immune status of the hens was determined by the serum neutralization test and the embryo-susceptibility test. The latter test always gave a more consistent and reliable indication of immune status than the former. There was no indication of egg transmission of vaccinal virus or the challenge-inoculum virus.
