The PHLS last published comprehensive guidance on the control of meningococcal disease in England and Wales in 19891. Updates followed2,3. Consultants in communicable disease control (CCDCs) requested clarification of the advice on antibiotic policies and contact management. The PHLS Meningococcal Infections Working Group reviewed and revised the guidance with CCDC representatives of the Public Health Medicine Environmental Group.
