Cardiovascular (CVD) and periodontal diseases (PDs) are both characterized not only by a high prevalence, but also by a constant increase. Their association could be explained by their high prevalence and by some common risk factors. This review is highlighting a possible causal relationship between the two kinds of diseases. The possible benefit in general health could be a major one, as PDs can be prevented and treated efficiently, not as many other CV risk factors.
