Lactation and contraception

The work of several workers on the way in which lactation confers protection against pregnancy is reviewed. A study of the amenorrhoea-galactorrhoea syndrome was also made: providing lactation was abundant, serum FSH and LH levels remained at low normal levels whereas prolactin levels were very often elevated. Infertility was observed in those with persistent amenorrhoea and galactorrhoea.
