The guidelines for blood transfusion practice and the guidelines for usage of blood products were revised and issued by Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in 2005. The purposes of these guidelines are to provide safe and appropriate transfusion therapy to the patients. All physicians and healthcare professionals who are involved in transfusion therapy should learn the concept of these guidelines and think carefully about the indication of blood products.
