Incidence of gastrointestinal nematodes in Kansas cattle

In Kansas, USA, in 1969-71, examination of 1,032 faecal samples from cattle from 50 different locations revealed the presence of the following helminths in decreasing order of frequency: Cooperia punctata, Trichostrongylus spp., Ostertagia ostertagi, C. oncophora, Haemonchus sp., Oesophagostomum radiatum, Bunostomum phlebotomum, Nematodirus sp. C. pectinata, Trichuris sp. Strongyloides papillosus, Gongylonoma sp. Moniezia eggs were also found. Details are given of egg counts in animals from dry lot and feed lot groups and on pasture, and of incidence in different age groups.
