Trainees in Romania are well informed about many issues pertaining to H. pylori infection. However, emphasis needs to be placed on the identification of patients with a past history of peptic ulcer, their appropriate testing for H. pylori and, if positive, its effective treatment. This deficiency in clinical practice is not peculiar to Romania - and is at least as problematic in the US. In Romania, as elsewhere, physicians should try and keep updated about local patterns of antimicrobial resistance and may need to adjust their treatment recommendations in the future to accommodate these.
