The annual reporting of antibiotics use in the Netherlands is discussed. Compared to 2006, antibiotic use increased by 9% (47 t). Tetracyclines accounted for 60% of total use. Oral drugs accounted for 90% of total. The use of newer drugs, such as fluoroquinolones, increased by 24% compared to 2006. Livestock sizes did not increase a lot, but many veterinarians stockpiled drugs to avoid price increases in 2008.
