From the studies and considerations of the working group the following recommendations are made: Reference methods are needed. The basic point of reference should be the MIC determined under reproducible conditions. The agar dilution method is generally preferable for its measurement. A reference broth dilution method should also be available for any agents whose action may be interfered with by agar.
