Various methods of surgical treatment of Legg-Calve-Perthes' disease have been applied in the Department of Children's Surgery, N. N. Priorov Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics, in the last 5 years. A total of 75 patients aged from 3 to 17 years were treated including 70 with unilateral and 5 with bilateral problems. Surgical correction was performed in 72 cases. Most of these patients had stage 2-3 disease according to the Axhausen-Reinberg classification and were referred to groups 3 and 4 by Salter-Thompson grading. Analysis of the results allowed the efficiency of different methods to be assessed. Unfortunately, it fell short of expectation in certain cases. This paper describes the original experience with the treatment of Legg-Calve-Perthes' disease and proposes recommendations for the rational surgical correction of the associated disorders in curative and preventive settings of different levels.
