1. Rabbits weighing from 1800 to 2000 g were given by vein Escherichia coli 078 labelled with 32P. A tissue emulsion of bovine liver and spleen, 0.5 ml/kg bodyweight, quickly removed the injected live bacteria from the blood. The phagocytosis index had risen by 39% by 20 min after the injection of bacteria. When nonspecific gamma -globulin and vitamin A were given in different amounts by injection there was no significant change in time of elimination of bacteria from blood (from summary).
