Review of terminology, predisposing factors, clinical signs and complications of the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is presented. Main emphasis is made on heart rhythm disturbances in this disease. Possible causes of cardiac arrhythmias, special characteristics of their course in patients with severe concomitant pathology, methods of diagnosis and treatment, including the use of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation are discussed.
