Q fever endocarditis with multi-organ complication: a case report

The case of a 79-year-old man who was admitted multiple times for lung and heart ailments consistent with an infectious aetiology during 2004-2005 [China] is described. During each hospitalization, the patient would be treated with multiple antibiotics and discharged following improvement in his symptoms. No aetiological agent was detected on culture and serological examinations done. The patient was eventually diagnosed as having Q fever on indirect immunofluorescence assay. On his last hospitalization, the patient's condition was stable after treatment with amphotericin B, doxycycline and rifampicin for 6 weeks.
