A case is reported in a 27-yr-old male, hospitalized for 6 months suffering from 90% second and third degree burns. C. tropicalis was cultured from blood samples on several occasions. Therapy with 5-fluorocytosine was initially successful, but chest pains, fever and haemoptysis returned after 4 months. After several days of amphotericin B therapy, surgery was performed and a 30 g fungus ball was removed from the right atrium and tricuspid valve. The patient recovered.
