Disseminated candidiasis originating from the urinary tract in a patient with diabetes mellitus

A 69-yr-old man with stable diabetes mellitus developed Candida albicans infection, originating in the urinary tract following transient urinary retention resulting from prostatic hypertrophy. Amphotericin B was given for 12 days. The condition was complicated by tubulo-interstitial nephropathy and gangrene of the extremities resulting from septic shock. The patient survived.
