The paper contains presentation of basics of clinical pharmacology of aldosterone receptor blockers specifically that of spironolactone and eplerenone, and discussion of results of 2 large randomized placebo controlled trials which showed that long term use of aldosterone receptor blockers allowed to improve prognosis of patients with severe chronic heart failure and postinfarction systolic left ventricular dysfunction, and to reduce requirements in repetitive hospitalizations.
