Polymorphism of the second exon of human leukocyte antigen-DQA1, -DQB1 gene and genetic susceptibility to idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy in people of the Han nationality in northern China

The HLA-DQA1 and HLA-DQB1 alleles in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDC) were studied. 68 patients with IDC (48 men and 20 women) seen at the Harbin Medical University (China) during 1999-2002 and 100 controls were included in the study. The frequencies of HLA-DQA1 * 0501 (0.3889 VS. 0.0900; P<0.001) and DQB1 * 0303 (0.1806 VS. 0.0364; P=0.003) were much higher in the IDC group than in the control group. The frequency of the DQA1 * 0201 allele (0.2000 vs. 0.0139; P=0.006) was higher in the control group.
