Oncogenic activity of feline fibrosarcoma virus in newborn pigs

Of 6 litter-mates, 4 were inoculated s/c with feline fibrosarcoma virus at 2 days of age. Neoplasms developed at the site of inoculation in 3 of the pigs within 7 days after inoculation, and they regressed within 24 days. Humoral antibodies were detected in the serum of inoculated pigs by using the techniques of indirect membrane immunofluorescence, altered buoyant density of serum-treated feline leucaemia virus particles, and the lack of oncogenicity of porcine serum plus feline fibrosarcoma virus for newborn kittens. Antibody titres reached a peak after tumour regression.
