An experiment was conducted to study the antidepressant effect of Kai Xin San (KXS) formulations, namely Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang, Qian Jin Yao Fang and Gu Jin Lu Yan, on Kunming mice. The pharmacodynamic distinction between the whole formula decoction and the active combination made up with each effective component from ginseng, polygala, hoelen and acori gramine were also studied. Comparative data on the effect of KXS formulations on the immobility time of force swimming and suspend tail test conducted on mice are tabulated.
