In connection with studies on allergy to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Trt.) in infants and children in Australia, two sheepskin rugs used by babies that had been washed or dry cleaned regularly were found to contain 73 live and 780 dead mites in 0.427 g dust in one case and 2649 live and 588 dead mites in 2.014 g dust in the other. Such rugs thus seem to be a good medium for the breeding of the mite.
