Problem of cumulative properties of the antineoplastic antibiotic 1719

The cumulative properties of antibiotic 1719 identical to azotomycin or diazomycin B were studied. When administered i.v. to albino mice at an interval of 24 h, antibiotic 1719 had an extraordinarily high cumulative activity 10 times higher than that of antitumor antibiotics, such as rubomycin, bruneomycin, tavromycin, or sibiromycin. No cumulative effect was observed, when antibiotic 1719 was administered to the mice at an interval of 72 h, which was indicative of rapid reversibility of the antibiotic toxic effect. Possible causes of such an effect of antibiotic 1719 were discussed from the point of view of mode of action on the cell. Probable distribution of the antibiotic lethal effect polymodal.
