Apparently, as a nation, the British don't like to complain. In a restaurant we would eat food that tastes like the insole of a shoe rather than complain, particularly in France, where we know that, generally, the raise of a Gallic Garçon's eyebrow can leave one feeling eviscerated but nevertheless obliged not only to eat the insole, but the rest of the shoe too.
