We studied the influence of liver hydrolysate on the hepatic blood flow in patients with chronic liver diseases by using the indocyanin green (ICG) single injection method before and after i.v. injection of 3 ml Proheparum®. The results were as follows: The rate of increase in the hepatic blood flow after injecting Proheparum was 17 to 73% (33% on the average) in seven patients, whereas it was 9 to 15% (1.2% on the average) in Hie five control patients. In the Proheparum group, the rate of increase was distinctly higher in patients suffering from cirrhosis than in others. The above results lead to the conclusion that liver hydrolysate has a beneficial therapeutic effect in chronic liver diseases, particularly in cirrhosis of the liver, due to its accelerating action upon the hepatic circulation.
