The effect of reserpine on GH response to insulin induced hypoglycemia and to arginine infusion was studied in 6 normal subjects and 5 hyperthyroid patients. In both groups, oral reserpine administration resulted in a lowering of GH response to hypoglycemia but no significant change of GH release after arginine. These results strongly support the concept of an adrenergic control of GH secretion and indicate that arginine stimulates GH secretion following a different way with respect to hypoglycemia and with a mechanism independent from an adrenergic control.
