Results of a survey on the use of a wrist-driven splint for prehension

Thirty-nine of forty-one patients with C-6 quadriplegia responded to a survey designed to determine the postdischarge use of a wrist-driven splint for prehension built at the University of Wisconsin Rehabilitation Center. Of these thirty-nine, thirty-five continue to use their splints over a period of nine years to three months. This article describes splint use in activities of daily living skills, recreation, educational and vocational pursuits. Of significance is the fact that seventeen (49%) of the thirty-five users are currently employed and/or attending school. Both subjective and objective responses indicate that the device is a useful one.
