16 women with secondary amenorrhea and 28 women with normal menstrual cycles took part in a study to ascertain how long the presence of spermatozoa can be determined in cervical secretions after a single cohabitation. Of the women with secondary amenorrhea, 11 had partners with normal sperm constitution; mobile sperm were found 204 hours, immobile up to 252 hours post coitum. 5 of the women had partners with oligoasthenic spermiogram findings; in this case the maximum for sperm determination was 108 hours. Among the 18 women with normal menstrual cycles and partners with normal sperm constitution, mobile sperm were found 204 hours post coitum, and immobile sperm were found 60 to at least 204 hours post coitum. 10 women with normal menstrual cycles had husbands with oligoasthenic spermiogram results; sperm could be found in the cervical secretions up to 132 hours post coitum.
