This study of 1,053 attendents from issue register of clients who attended family planning clinic, attached to B. J. Medical College and Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, during the year 1962 revealed the following: 143 (13.5%) females attended for male contraceptive supply whereas 100 (9.5%) males attended for female contraceptive supply out of total 1,053 attendance; males (754) in relation to females (299) predominate at the clinic for attendance, the ratio being 2.8:1; active cases of the respective past years taking contraceptive during the year 1962 increases; frequency of attendance of cases for the respective year also increases and the rate of frequency, turns out to be an average 2/case-card; in contraceptive take up from the clinic uptake of male contraceptive methods viz. Sheath with or without spermicidal jelly (Orthogynol) predominates (70.7%); signatures studied show that majority of males (521) signed in English whereas majority of females (143) signed in Gujarati against the supply of contraceptive [thumb impression, a sign of illiteracy ranked higher in females (90) in comparison to that in males (17)].
