Complications after abortions occur much more often among primigravidae than any other group. In 1970, 1260 women gave birth and 191 women were treated for miscarriages in our clinic. Of these 191, 52.7% had had an interruption of their 1st pregnancy. In 1971 there were 1360 births and 216 miscarriages, of which 56% had had an interruption of their 1st pregnancy. Furthermore, 343 patients were treated for risk pregnancies, 1/2 of whom were treated for abortus iminens, bleeding in the first trimester, and incompetence of the cervix. All of the women in this 1/2 had had an interruption of their 1st pregnancy. It is recommended that the committee on interruption of pregnancy be more strict in granting their permission to primigravidae.
