A comparison was made of the accuracy of log measurements made by mechanical harvesters (Timberjack 3000 and Dasa 280B), manual forest measurement, and works (factory gate) measurement. The comparison covered 441, 949 and 1601 logs on three areas [in Germany]. The results indicate that with correct operation, regular calibration and adequate supervision, the harvester systems provide results accurate enough to be used as a control measure. The rapid development of harvester measuring systems is expected to lead to even greater accuracy and wider acceptance.
