The authors report 62 pers:nal cases and study peri-anal lesions in Verneuil's disease. The clinical appearance was characteristic, similar to that described by Verneuil in 1854. The course is chronic with either recurrent infection of the same lesion or new lesions may form. Histology does not always clearly show infection of the sweat glands or of the apocrine glands previously described. In certain cases, careful bacteriological study has shown, apart from common organisms, anaerobic streptococci. Attacks of acute inflammation may be stopped by antibiotics, but only removal of the lesions without suture permits cure of the disease.
