Tablets containing ascorbic acid have been prepared by three different technology. The basic materials and the tablets have been stored in the dark, at 25°C and 45°C and at a relative humidity of 0, 45, 80 and 100 %, resp. After 2, 4 and 6 weeks the following tests have been carried out: a) titrimetric determination of the ascorbic acid content, b) control of the colour change, c) determination of the humidity and d) measurement of the ultraviolet absorption. The colour change at the beginning of the decomposition could be followed by measuring the extinction at 420 nm. This method has been suggested for the control of the tablets. Intensive colouration has been observed above 45% relative humidity.
