Life style of adult diabetics of patients attending outpatient clinics

The present study was carried out to determine the points of shortage regarding knowledge and lifestyle pattern of adult diabetics towards diet regimen, weight control, exercise, complications prevention and self management. A cross-sectional study was conducted in two health centers in two areas, with two different social classes, in Helliopolis District. It included 300 the better the knowledge score but the practice score did not differ. The present study revealed that attendants to EI-Nozha and Hykstep health unit outpatient clinics had deficient knowledge related to diabetes management and prevention of complications. They also had low levels of self-care practices, which might adversely affect the course of the disease. The fact that knowledge affects behavior predicts that they will acquire higher levels self-care practices once they acquire sound knowledge.
