Intestinal anisakiasis. Radiologic diagnosis

Cases are reported in a 56-year-old man and a 33-year-old women from Spain , who presented with abdominal pain and vomiting. The first patient had a swollen and painful abdomen on palpation; computed tomography of the abdomen was consistent with intestinal obstruction. The patient underwent surgical resection of part of the intestine; during surgery a nematode identified as Anisakis was also noted. A diagnosis of eosinophilic enteritis due to Anisakis was made. The second patient had fever and hypogastric pain; examination revealed anaemia with eosinophilia. Computed tomography of the abdomen showed a large quantity of intraperitoneal fluid and was consistent with intestinal inflammation. Surgical resection of a section of the intestine was performed, and examination of the intestinal wall demonstrated oedema and eosinophilic infiltration. Eosinophilic enteritis was diagnosed.
