An analysis is made of seven years' study of marketing systems in Latin America, with the aim of diagnosing problems and identifying possible areas for improvement. As a result of high annual population increases in the rural areas, and accelerated rural-urban migration, the demand for food and services in towns is growing at an alarming rate. To meet this situation, the governments are stimulating the organization and improvement of agricultural marketing facilities. A systematic approach to improving such systems is suggested, citing Colombia and Costa Rica as having good examples of institutionalized marketing programmes.
