Study on the antioxidant effect of Samara oil

The oil productivity of Samara oil seeds is high and its quality is better than other kinds of oil seeds. Forty Wistar rats (24 month-old) are randomly divided into 4 groups: A (control group), B (vitamin E group), C(Samara oil group) and D(Sea Buckthron oil group). The rats are killed and examined after 28 days of feeding with four different feeds respectively. The results show that compared with the control group, the lipid peroxidation in group B, C, and D decreases while the antioxidant effect increases indicating that the antioxidant effect of Samara oil is strong than that of vitamin E. It is suggested that this natural oil resource might have great potential in the development of food.
