Mechanism of multidrug resistance of ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer is one of the most frequent cancers in women, and five-year survival rate from ovarian cancer is only 20% to 30%. The main problem and reason for lack of success in treatment is usually late recognition. Unfortunately, advances in surgical techniques and chemotherapy do not translate into improved survival. Despite the high response rates with initial treatment, most patients with ovarian cancer relapse. Usually then they are chemoresistant to standard chemotherapy. This article presents a review of the basic mechanisms of drug resistance in ovarian cancer and their clinical significance.
