This report presents the preliminary analysis of a case-control study on micronutrient intake and colorectal adenomas in Brazilian-Japanese patients in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Cases (n=115) and controls (n=202) were colonoscopy patients (age 40-79 years old) admitted to the Santa Cruz Hospital, Sao Paulo City between October 1997 and October 2000. A protective effect against the risk of colorectal adenomas was found for total iron and vitamin E intakes. The strongest inverse association was observed for iron intake.
