Venereal transmission of Klebsiella aerogenes in a thoroughbred stud from a persistently infected stallion

An outbreak of metritis due to Klebsiella (Aerobacter) aerogenes involving a number of mares on a Thoroughbred stud is described. The stallion was found to be persistently infected and at P.M. examination the organism concerned was recovered from the external genitalia, prostate gland, bladder and kidney. Therapeutic and epidemiological problems are discussed.
