Damages to the internal organs have been found out in 59 patients (52.7%) with ulcerative colitis (UC), their degree correlating with the activity of UC but in number of cases no correlation was found. Injury to the heart was in 31.3 percent, hepatic disturbances in 34.1%, those in the central nervous system in 3.6% of UC patients. In UC patients, prognosis of the disease and quality of their life depend on the degree of injury to the internal organs. Extra-bowel manifestations of UC have many pathogenic differences, which fact warrants a change in the policy of treating UC patients.
