U.S. District Judge Myron H. Thompson struck down an Alabama law he called an open effort to limit the discussion of sexuality on college campuses. The Gay Lesbian Bisexual Alliance at the University of South Alabama in Mobile was denied funding for an on-campus checking account because a dean at the university said its discussions of homosexuality violated State law (Section 16-1-28). The judge condemned the law as a vehicle that denies free speech to those who denounce homophobia while giving free rein to those who condemn homosexuality.
