The types of epidemiological studies used in the assessment of vaccine efficiency and the most common sources of bias are listed. Basic formulae for the calculation of vaccine efficiency coefficient in cohort and case-control studies are given. Methods of estimating vaccine efficiency in outbreaks are presented in relation to the degree of vaccine coverage and herd immunity effect.
