An investigation was conducted to evaluate the impact of shifting cultivation on the physicochemical properties and microbial population in four soils (Jakhama, Medziphema, Kigwema and Jharnapani) of Nagaland, India. Results showed that pH, organic carbon and available N, P and K were high in uncultivated area than in shifting cultivation area for all of the four locations.
