The review summarizes recent results concerning synthesis of aryl(trifluoromethyl)diazirin-based photo-activatable derivatives of nucleic acids and proteins, such as analogs of nucleosides, nucleotides, oligonucleotides, as well as amino acids and peptides. Synthesis of bi- and polyfunctional photo-activable reagents, including those, containing a cleavable functional group, for post-synthetic modification of biopolymers. The data related to the use of photo-activatable derivatives in the studies of nucleoprotein interactions are analyzed. The main accent of the authors of this review is placed on the results obtained by their research group in collaboration with other scientists of the Department of Chemistry of Natural Compounds, School of Chemistry, Moscow State University, as well as by the alumni of this Department.
