The article discusses the unequal treatment of boys and girls in developing countries' educational systems with particular reference to Sierra Leone; changes in division of labour between the sexes as reflected in modern educational programmes; changes in family structure and traditional ideas about modernization; and the influence of programmes to encourage self employment. Finally some critical remarks are made on the transfer policy models based on the small family from developed to developing countries.
