Out of 100 house mice (Mus musculus) collected and examined in the Diliman district of Quezon City in the Philippines, 69 were found to be harbouring arthropod ectoparasites, of which 171 individuals were collected; these, together with their respective prevalence, were the mites Radfordia affinis (Poppe) (45%), R. ensifera (Poppe) (33%), Myocoptes musculinus (Koch) (15%), Myobia musculi (Schr.) (8%), Ornithonyssus bacoti (Hirst) (3%) and Laelaps sp. (Echinolaelaps sp.) (1%), and the flea Xenopsylla cheopis (Roths.) (7%). Both single and multiple infestations were common. Notes are given on each species and on its medical or veterinary importance. The 2 commonest mite species are not known to have pathological effects, and only O. bacoti and X. cheopis are known to harbour pathogens affecting animals or man, although Myocoptes and Myobia in heavy infestations cause dermatitis and other conditions in mice by their bites. No lice were found during the present study.
