The increase in the number of legal abortions in Denmark after the law of March 1, 1970 liberalized the availability of abortion is discussed. Various studies show that the number of abortions increased after passage of the law. The increase was attributed to sections 2 and 4 of the law. The liberalization of abortion increases public acceptance of abortion and also liberalized discussion about sexual problems. This is indicated by the increase in pregnancy which accompanies the increase in abortion. The populace must be educated and women seeking abortion must be counseled in order to reduce the number of abortions.
