Haematological investigation of 187 pregnant Kenyan women who had had no previous treatment with Fe showed only 8.5% to be anaemic with Hb concentration less than 10 g per 100 ml. Fe deficiency was the most common cause of the anaemia which was more marked in primigravidae than in multigravidae.
