Bank Staff Working Paper 215: 47

1975

Document Number: 519774
This paper surveys the current state of knowledge on migration in LDCs and suggests directions for future research. A brief indication is first given of the importance of migration flows from rural to urban areas; then the determinants of migration are discussed. Various case studies are reviewed and an examination is made of the question of whether migrants actually receive the potential economic benefits which encouraged them to move in the first place.
